Invitation seminar February 15th, 2024

Top Sector Horticulture & Starting Materials is organizing a seminar on Thursday, February 15th, 2024 on exploring and developing models for the collaboration of an international horticultural cluster between Morocco and the Netherlands.

The Dutch horticulture industry is known for its global activities. Greenhouses (equipment), inputs, starting material are exported around the globe. But also produce are traded through international values chains. All this needs to be combined with knowledge and experience and a governance structure to operate it. The Dutch triple helix is often named as the backbone of the successful position of the horticulture cluster.

For a country to develop its horticulture sector this means more than building greenhouses, a complete eco system needs to be developed. Recent examples are seen in South Korea and Kentucky (USA). Morocco is also active in developing its greenhouse sector in combination with a challenge regarding water scarcity. A mission of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), last November, has identified several challenges and options for collaboration.

To realize this potential, a cluster approach is needed. This calls for a conceptual design that can only be created by input from all the stakeholders involved, both Moroccan and Dutch (triple helix). Research and education, business, and government(s) all must define their responsibilities, roles and tasks.

The seminar is part of an incoming mission from Moroccan involved triple helix horticulture stakeholders organized by RVO in collaboration with the Dutch Embassy in Rabat. Various participants from IBN Tofail, IAV Hassan II, INRA, Credit Agricole du Maroc, Dimatit and the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development will join the seminar

During a seminar on Thursday, February 15th, 2024, the cluster collaboration between Morocco and the Netherlands will be discussed in an interactive setting. The design of the international triple helix will be at the focal point, with the aim of transferring insights into concrete action and inspiration for other initiatives.
